Davis East West Expedition
From Asia to America (the long way)
One couple's attempt to become familiar with the other third of the world.
Starting in Hong Kong, where we have lived for the past five years, the DEWE (Davis East West Expedition) will first detour to Australia, returning briefly to Hong Kong (the big 180), then onward to Japan, China, Outer Mongolia, Siberia, Russia and finally wander around Europe for a few months.
The love of travel and intense desire to experience other cultures and see the sites that lay along our chosen path is what is driving the DEWE. Taking a break from thirty five years of working full time is providing the opportunity.
Planes, trains, camels, buses, ferries, bicycles, horses, automobiles and feet will be our means of travel during this journey. We will opt for alternatives to air travel whenever it makes sense so that we can see as much of the countryside as possible.
We start our oddessy on June 7, 2006, and plan to end our journey with friends and family in the U.S. around the holidays at the end of the year.
We are writing this journal as a personal record for our enjoyment in years to come, when we are really old and can't remember the way to the toilet. We've decided to publish this as a way for family and friends to track our progress and hopefully provide them some entertainment along the way.
Blogs are such a popular method of sharing information in this internet age, allowing people to feel like they are staying in touch when you are on the road; so we have, you could say, hopped on the blogwagon. We hope you enjoy the ride.
